Buyers fight over $475/square foot 'bargain'

Prospective buyers of the new X2 condo development, which will be built at Jarvis and Charles Streets, argued and shouted with each other Wednesday after confusion erupted over who would be allowed to purchase first.

The builder, Great Gulf Homes, is holding the sales event at the Intercontinental Hotel on Bloor Street.

According to reports, some agents had been lining up on the south side of Bloor since Nov. 15 to make sure they would be first to buy.

But late last night, another line formed on the north side of Bloor and then a third line inside the hotel.

Early Wednesday, a representative from Great Gulf Homes issued numbers to the latecomers, prompting jeers and shouting from the original investors.

The condo is scheduled to be completed by 2013 and, at $475 per square foot, is considered a bargain in the downtown core. [Toronto Star]
