Chef Steh wins Ground-hog Day cook-off

Patrick Struys

The results of Cava restaurant's first annual Groundhog Day cook-off are in, and the big winner of the evening was chef Michael Steh from Reds Bistro.

The event, which took place on Feb. 2 at Cava (1560 Yonge St.) featured six local chefs — Fabio Bondi of Local Kitchen, Ted Corrado of C5, Ryan Crawford of Stone Road Grille, Mark Cutrara of Cowbell Restaurant, Grant van Gameren of The Black Hoof and Steh.

The challenge was to make a dish from, well, ground hog.

Steh stole the show with his pig porchetta, and took home the winner's trophy — a wooden cutting board adorned with black hoofs. People's Choice award went to Grant van Gameren for his Nduja with fennel salad.
