Toronto’s Best Sandwiches: the pulled pork sandwich at Black Camel

Located a few steps from Rosedale station, Black Camel is a hard place to miss in the ‘hood. Attracting spiffed-up boutique owners alongside construction workers and the odd cop or two, most diners get the goods to go. Those looking for a lengthier respite from the daily grind can peruse the stack of daily papers or cozy up at one of the tiny outdoor tables facing the park.

Plucked from the sandwich menu, the slow roasted pulled pork ($7.90) is the champion offering. Served on a Portuguese roll from Dundas West’s Brisa Do Liz, the headliner of the show is, of course, the pulled pork. Using shoulder from The Butcher Shoppe, the pork is marinated in a house spice rub for three whole days before being roasted overnight for 13–14 hours. Doused in the house barbecue sauce and some jus, a pile of caramelized onions (for $0.90 more) finalizes the deal, resulting in a deliciously warm mess.

With a loyalty card system in play, pork enthusiasts can get number 13 for free.
