Cheap Eat of the Week: What A Bagel’s challah bread
Challah: not just for Sabbath (Image: Gizelle Lau)
OK, confession. I’ve only recently discovered the deliciousness that is challah. I know, I know. I blame it on growing up in a mostly Asian part of Scarborough. And while I’m sure die-hard challah fans will be able to nominate their favourite challah in the city, I have a soft spot for What A Bagel’s.
On my morning commute, when I bypass the neighbourhood What A Bagel, it takes every ounce of strength not to hop in for some perfectly browned, sesame-topped challah ($0.99 for a bun, or $4.99 for a loaf) that’s just waiting to be picked up, broken apart and downed with a coffee.
I give in once or twice a week, even if it’s not the Sabbath.
