Drink This: 3030’s Perfect Storm

While the Junction has long been cropped out of Hogtown’s nightlife map, 3030 is here to prove that it’s worth a visit. Under prohibition until as late as 2000, the west-end hood is known as a décor-lovers destination. So when Jeff and Jameson Kelly opened their bar this past May, residents let out a collective whoop. Seeking to become more than just a local watering hole, the joint has plenty of tricks up its sleeve: pinball tourneys, brunch, live music and more.

Whipped up by mixologist Dan Rose, the Perfect Storm ($8) is a riff on the classic Dark ‘N’ Stormy. Based on Sailor Jerry spiced rum, the drink is finished with splashes of Grace ginger beer (“the best one around,” Jeff says) and three muddled lime wedges. This all-weather beverage is an easy way to usher in the fall; it’s still got limey notes of summer, but the rum’s warmth is ideal during cool evenings on the front patio.

And if that doesn’t suit your fancy, we’re pretty sure one of the many Ontario brews on tap will.
