Shoe Fetish: these black and gold wedges from Jimmy Choo

Mid-April in Toronto is chock-full of stubbornly shivering women in layers too thin for the almost-spring. But hey, we're all waiting with bated breath for warmer weather, and no colour combination is quite as redolent of summer nights spent strolling a riviera (French or Mayan—take your pick) as black and gold. It's glamorous, in a very nearly '70s American Hustle-like way.

The Jimmy Choo Pela wedge is, in my humble opinion, one of the most successful recent incarnations of the shoe style. A solid-coloured heel, especially one as bulky as the wedge, always feels like a wasted opportunity. The Pela wedge features a beautiful black-to-gold gradient in its 5" cork heel, and contrasts it with a patent leather upper and a gold-buckled adjustable ankle strap. Wedges are inherently casual—particularly those of the cork variety—but these venture into dressier territory.

If the wedge shape isn't already comfortable enough, the Pela also sports a rubber sole. Pair these with a diaphanous black shirtdress and a burnished wrist cuff and transition effortlessly from brunch into evening.
