With beach season in full-swing, finding the ideal bathing suit can be a challenge. So the timing is pretty perfect for the opening of the new Eres store in Yorkville, where women can find stylish and comfortable maillots. “You know the French,” says the store owner, who goes by the name Vasilia. “They don’t want to look old.”

If you’re not wearing Canadian on Canada Day this long weekend then, well, you get zero points for patriotism. But if your closet is lacking in the department of maple-certified goods, don’t fret, we’ve found the best possible tank top. It’s red, it’s white and it’s got a dizzy-eyed bear (designed by renowned Canadian artist Geoff McFetridge) smack on the front. How fitting for a party weekend up north, eh?

There’s nothing like some good ol’ shoe candy to drool over just before the weekend hits. These laser-cut, fine leather slingbacks are reminiscent of the popular clog (RIP), but are updated with a stacked wooden heel and quirky details.

Drawing some 1,700 guests out to the waterfront, the Power Ball is Hogtown’s big-ticket fête of the summer. Held at The Power Plant, this year’s fundraiser served to blow out the candles on the gallery’s 25th birthday cake, with a Quarter-Life Crisis theme inspiring attendees to don either their finest frippery or the wildest getup they could muster up. We checked out the scene, finding plenty of feathers, sequins and, well, orange.

How many cool up-and-coming swimwear designers from Toronto can you name off the top of your head? We have trouble naming even one from Canada, let alone Toronto. It’s really not that surprising, considering we are best known for clothing lines geared for the chillier months. Still, it would be nice to be able to strip down to some Canuck beachwear sometimes, would it not?

After watching Johnny Depp play an imprisoned vampire in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, we’ve been inspired to wake up our own inner 18th-century Goth. We’re not saying it’s time to hit Queen West and emerge in this city’s signature gothic-raver attire, but it is time to try something a little more dramatic — and this little black dress by Lover has all of the delicate detailing of “the dark world” that we love.

The master shirt-makers of Gitman Bros. Vintage know a thing or two about making classics stand out, so we pay attention when they opt to put a progressive spin on them. Lightweight chambray shirts should make their way into every guy's wardrobe at summer and Gitman’s U.S. Open three-quarter-length chambray shirt is cool variation on the theme.
