They say that accessories make the outfit, but what if the accessory is the outfit? Then there would be no to worry about whether cocktail rings and statement necklaces complemented a look or went with your shoes.

We can’t find any scientific proof for this, but we’re guessing there’s some kind of link between caffeine and impulse buying. How else to account for the growing trend of retail stores in Toronto that seem to take coffee as seriously as the goods they’re selling?

With Toronto’s weather hitting a record-busting 30 degrees today, it’s fair to say our city’s sweaty, sultry summer has arrived. Which means sunbathing, drinks on the patio and lazing around while the sun shines. And that makes Natalie Petozzi and Abigail Van Den Broek our two most favourite people this weekend. Under their Glory Box brand, the pair are putting on a pop-up sale of upscale patio furniture.

Known for his unconventional, intellectual and distinct point of view, designer Adrian Wu has lofty aspirations and has been pinpointed as one to watch. In 2010, after being accepted into the prestigious Istituto Marangoni fashion school, Wu did a 180, opting to open up shop in Burlington (yes, that Burlington) instead. Having recently moved to the big city, we popped into his new downtown studio space to chat with the young designer.

When heading out for a night on the town, the question of safety always comes to mind. Every woman has their secret weapon of choice (pepper spray, stiletto heels) but the key lies in something that’s easily concealed within a cute outfit. Which is where this sparkly clutch from Nine West comes into play: it could easily double as brass knuckles. And even if protecting yourself through fashion isn’t your first priority, we still think this clutch is really cool.

“How am I supposed to get dressed for work when it’s too hot for clothes?” This is a style question we’ve been asked one too many times in the midst of summer’s hot hot heat. Looking easy, breezy and beautiful actually isn’t so easy when dealing with sticky humidity and high temperatures in Toronto.

For quite some time now, the dainty stud has dominated earlobes. The fash pack, it seems, favours the oversized statement necklace (and plenty of arm candy) over flashy earrings. But fashion works in a cycle, and when our desires for high-impact ear wear washes out, it is sure to come right back in again.

We are feeling fairly confident that real summer is just around the corner, even with all the backwards weather we’ve been dealing with lately. So what does that mean? It’s time to open up the T-shirt drawer and refresh! But this is easier said than done if you are a Torontonian who supports “keepin’ it local.” American Apparel? Obviously not. Haines? Not sure where you would even find the brand anymore.
