#71 Carmen

Carmen

The new offshoot of Kensington Market’s Torito Tapas Bar is bigger and brighter — but the menu is pretty much the same tightly curated tapas list. Plus the ne plus ultra of Toronto: Paella. In fact better paella than in Barcelona. Paella Carmen is perfectly cooked seafood, chicken and spicy chorizo atop unusually moist and tasty rice with fresh pesto. Best among tapas are fried green tomatoes with roasted red peppers and corn and feta, and grilled shrimp jumped up with garlic and chili. To wash it down, go Carmen all the way: her namesake cocktail is a gin punch with Amaro and lime topped with pink froth (egg white whipped with cranberry bitters).
