#60 Estiatorio Volos

Estiatorio Volos

The best Greek food in Toronto is not on the Danforth! Volos is a gorgeous room with spacious tables, lovely white arches and clever grace notes like a black wall embossed with proto-Greek characters. The food is Greek gone light! The classic Greek salad, happily free of iceberg lettuce, is a sweet combo of designer feta with three kinds of boutique tomatoes. Grilled Moroccan octopus is unimaginably tender and garnished with a splendid airy pure of roasted eggplant zinged with figs and walnuts. We love the perfectly seared black cod baked with gigantic tomato-sauced Greek lima beans, and the lemony back story of tender lamb shank with chard and velvety mashed potatoes. That they top it with a flurry of shreds of deep-fried leeks is further proof that Volos is nouvelle Greek all the way.
