#50 North 44

North 44

It was #35 in 2012, #46 in 2013 and has now fallen to #51. North 44 remains a serious restaurant, thanks to its luxe looks, all taupe and glass, and the buying power of Mark McEwan’s fine food organization. The scallops are fresh and giant, the duck breast the best red meat money can buy, the foie gras melts in the mouth. But the thrill is gone. The execution is less than exciting. We still adore their iconic lobster mini-tacos, but some nights the little beet tortilla shells are too sugary. Service too has lost some of its lustre and is now merely competent.
