Chef Scott Pennock’s bistro card is short, seasonal and superb. His Saturday night special, hunter’s pie, tastes like the best of French meat stews. It’s moist duck and pheasant with carrots, cremini mushrooms and onions in fab brown sauce with a fragile puff pastry roof, served in a small black iron frying pan. He salt-cured foie gras is smooth as silk, and his burger drips with caramelized onions in meat juice. House-made ricotta ravioli are like clouds, with intensely mushroomy cream sauce. Shaved cauliflower spiked with cumin and ginger makes iconoclastic coleslaw. One quibble: The room is too dark and the music is too loud.
