#45 The Saint Tavern

The Saint Tavern

The hottest eating tavern in the city is a white-tiled Parisian bistro on, where else, Ossington. The bar is hopping, the drinks are cool, and the food is clever comfort done with ever-increasing pizzazz — especially since Buca’s exec chef, Rob Gentile, stepped in to help oversee the food here. Gently browned perogies stuffed with cabbage and pork belly get a yummy redo from smoked cheddar. There’s a fun shout-out to eggs benny in the lobster and corned beef hash topped with poached eggs in very good barnaise sauce. And an impressive creative touch: Bacon in the duck sausage, and for garnish perfectly deep-fried Brussels sprouts leaves with quick-pickled tomato shreds (quick, as in pickled when you order). The cheeseburger is pretty great, as are the frites. Skip dessert; it’s old school.
