#43 Richmond Station

Richmond Station

Like the best British gastropubs, the menu is short, the welcome warm and the food unfussy and lovely. Both rooms are cozy but ask for the back room cause the fast-moving open kitchen is a fun ballet to watch. Cute little lettuce wraps of duck confit with toasted peanuts have sweet, sour and crunch. Candied trout hushpuppies get buzz from pickled jalapeno and creole aioli. A little potato and bacon chowder turns halibut sexy, and impeccable pink duck breast has super-cool uncreamy scalloped potatoes, sea buckthorn berry sauce and gingery carrot puree. And calories be damned, inhale their deconstructed cheesecake: a cloud of peanut butter mousse with caramel-topped steamed cheesecake, puffed sorghum, smoked apple and salty/sweet graham cracker crumbs.
