With ersatz retro diners popping up all over town, what a delectable relief to eat in a real diner. With honest passionate food. Anthony Rose’s mother-ship is tiny, always packed, and it takes reservations! Loud rock music, cramped plastic banquettes, writing on the wall, a great burger with sweet fresh fries and aioli…. He marinates chicken in buttermilk for tenderness, southern fries it and puts it on a challah bun with sweetened bacon and house-made sweet pickle relish. His grilled romaine with grilled squash and cheesy grilled bread is Caesar deliciously re-born. The ever-scrumptious peanut butter chocolate milkshake… And it’s not all junk food: Perfectly fresh pickerel gets a quick saut and a lift from smashed potatoes ‘n’ mushrooms. So yes, home base has survived the expansion of the Anthony Rose brand.
