Landmark site up for sale, Perl’s looks west
by Michelle Ervin
The historic home of Perl’s Kosher Foods has gone up for sale. Before it was gutted by a 2006 fire, the neighbourhood deli ran a busy shop near Bathurst Street and Lawrence Avenue.
Until recently, it was expected to reopen at the site in the fall. Owner Brian Perl explains that a change in regulations since the fire occurred made it unworkable to manufacture and sell out of the location.
The business is currently manufacturing at a plant in the Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue area. “We’ll be selling to all the supermarkets we had before, plus throughout Canada as well,” Perl said. Perl hopes to open a retail location in the future.
