Andrea and Jay today, with their two children
JAY AND ANDREA SIDON have quite a story. As fate would have it, it seems they were deemed to meet one way or another. Though the possibility of an e-date was in the works, it was an introduction by a mutual friend that got this ball rolling. Now with two kids and a Polynesian honeymoon under their belts, who knows what is next for these two.
Here is their story.
How they met: In May 2001, Jay decided to check out an online matchmaking website. After looking through more than 200 profiles, there was one profile that really stood out. She was a cute little blond from Montreal. Jay felt they had many similar interests.
He had the intention of contacting her. But before getting around to doing so, a good friend called Jay, wanting to set him up on a blind date. Jay agreed, took the number and called the girl. They had a great conversation and set up a time to meet. As Jay hung up the phone, he realized everything about the girl sounded familiar. Turns out, this was the girl from the profile he had printed the week before.
The first date: Their first date was at Amore in Toronto. They had a wonderful dinner with interesting conversation. They ended the date with a nice romantic walk.
A few days after that, Jay was leaving on a solo 10-week trek through Southeast Asia. “Call me when you get back,” Andrea said. “Really, I mean it.” Sure enough, three months later, she got the call.
The courtship: Their relationship moved along very fast. They went on a Caribbean cruise after two months of dating and moved in together after three months. Things seemed so easy and natural. Jay was a true romantic and was full of creative ways to express his affection.
The proposal: Jay went down to the Beaches and, in the sand, planted a message in an old Coke bottle. The message read: “Andrea, will you marry me?” Jay had carefully mapped out exactly where he had planted the bottle (as well as a second bottle just in case). Later that day they went down to the Beaches. He lay down a blanket on the sand, and that is where he proposed. Unfortunately he was not able to find either of the bottles. They had a good laugh about that.
They married in Montreal and went on a cruise in Polynesia where they went scuba diving and on adventure tours.
Their lives today: Jay and Andrea have two children. Colby is three years old and Chaz is one. Their children have enriched their lives and have brought so much joy. They live in Thornhill Woods and have been living here for five years. They are very happy living in a neighbourhood with so many young families. Both are physiotherapists. Jay is also a chiropractor and operates his own clinic. Secret to success: They have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for one another. It’s important to be able to see things from the other person’s perspective.
