Denim to dye for
Jeanne Beker tries on this season’s coolest crop of coloured jeans
JEANNE’S PICK: DIESEL, $200
“We love the jeans at Diesel. And who can resist this colour? Wow! It’s a tangerine-orange, and it’s a hot-hot colour right now — it’s popping up everywhere. It looks good with white, it looks good with black; it’s a real eye-catcher. You’ll definitely be noticed if you wear these jeans.”
Where to get it: Diesel, 92 Yorkville Ave.
RAG AND BONE, $222
“It’s all about the metallic jean. Now this is a waxed denim — a very, very hot look. It’s going through the roof in Europe. These jeans almost have a leather-like feel, but, of course, they’re much more comfortable than leather — they have a great amount of stretch. And boy oh boy, do they make a statement.”
Where to get it: Aritzia, 50 Bloor St. W.
J BRAND, $225
“These are particularly cool. Again, they have a great stretch to them. I just love the look of these jeans. They’d look great with a grey T-shirt or black tank top. Really sexy. I know, it’s a lot to spend on jeans, but they really make a statement. Very feminine as well.”
Where to get it: Mendocino, 1090 Don Mills Rd.
RICH AND SKINNY, $209
“These jeans have got a great amount of stretch and a beautiful soft feel to them. This colour is so happening right now — not just for summer, but even going into fall. We see a lot of this dusty, antique rose colour. It just goes with absolutely everything. Wonderful.”
Where to get it: Fiveoseven Clothing, 1 Bass Pro Mills Dr.
GUESS, $108
“These Guess jeans are more reasonably priced — they’re only $108. And I love this soft pink. It’s so, so feminine. Again, almost a worn, pre-washed look to them, so that’s sort of cool. A great, younger kind of look. If you’re trying to camouflage, you may not want to go for such a light colour … but it is awfully pretty.”
Where to get it: Guess, Yorkdale Shopping Centre
FIDELITY, $198
“I love purple. It’s coming on strong — not only right now, but also for next fall, too. So if you get them for this season, you can wear them into the season ahead. This is a yummy grape colour. Just a great basic jean. Love the stretch, and these will go with anything. Grape is the new black.”
Where to get it: Over the Rainbow, 101 Yorkville Ave.
EDIT, $84.99
“Nepotism lives!” exclaims Beker, cheekily selecting a pair of jeans from her own Edit line. “This cobalt blue is a very hot colour this season. What’s great about these jeans is that they’re cropped, so they’ve got a sexy little edge to them. They look great with a stiletto or a great platform sandal. These cuts are flattering to women of all body types.”
Where to get it: The Bay, Eaton Centre
