The Remington Markham International Sedan Chair Challenge
During this Victoria Day long-weekend, families are welcome to experience a distinct aspect of Asian culture: the sedan chair challenge. This two-day event will feature challenging Sedan Chair races participated by over 20 teams for charity, a colourful parade, a fun-filled carnival and a spectacular fireworks display. This year’s parade highlights include an exhibition of Piao Se, a traditional Chinese folk performance displaying children floating in the air!
A Sedan Chair is a human-power carriage used as a transport vehicle, usually structured in a wooden frame supported by two horizontal poles. According to historical records, the Sedan Chair traces back to the Xia Dynasty (2205 - 1806 BC). It was once popularly used across China and nearby Asian countries.
