An end-of-the-world romance told heartbreakingly, horrifyingly and hysterically, as only Burkett can.

Penny Plain sits in her overstuffed chair, listening to the news of civilization’s inevitable end and then, when her companion dog Geoffrey leaves to live as a man, the outside chaos invades her sanctuary. With a cast including survivalists, a serial killer, a cross-dressing banker, talking dogs and mysterious strangers, Penny Plain is a poignant and disturbing drawing room comedy of ill manners.

“Burkett is simply one of the geniuses of the world theatre and a Canadian cultural icon.”  The Province

“One of the great wonders and joys of the modern theatre world… extraordinary.” Manchester Evening  News

“What’s wondrous about a Burkett show… (is) almost everything is unexpected and shiny-new. It is, by turns, a deft display of virtuosity, of ribald humour… of poignancy and grief, of love and compassion.”  Toronto Star
