Margaret Maye of Bravo International Singers on Stage proudly presents: one of the greatest Cuban pianists of the 20th century - Hilario Durán & his 10 piece stellar artist Latin Jazz Band with a talented vocalist Yailen Durán in concert “Ritmos Latinos”. This show is being presented for the 6th Annual Concert for Epilepsy on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Lula Lounge, 1585 Dundas St. W., in Toronto, for one night only.
Also appearing on stage would be Margaret Maye, mezzo-soprano, who is an activist for epilepsy cause and the producer of this annual event that she initiated, using Music to End Epilepsy concept, in order to help her son and others in the hopes of raising awareness and funds for finding a cure and eradicating the stigma of epilepsy.
Proceeds will benefit the University of Toronto Epilepsy Research & Other Programs.
Hilario Durán, a genius of modern jazz, ranked among the greats, is known as an unparalleled pianist, a composer and arranger of the first order, as well as a recording artist and educator. A winner of three Juno and over a dozen National Jazz Awards, a Grammy nominee, is one of the world's most innovative creators of Afro-Cuban music and Latin Jazz that moved jazz into the 21st century.
Hilario is also a recipient of the Chico O’Farrill Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 and was voted one of the 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians in 2009. Hilario Durán has become an integral and important part of the Canadian music scene. He’s also an invaluable member of the jazz faculty at Humber College, where he acts as adjunct piano professor and ensemble director.
This magical evening will feature traditional Afro-Cuban music infused with Latin Jazz, salsa and pop. 10 brilliant musicians, and 2 singers will sizzle the audience with a feast of spicy hot and vibrant music, dance rhythms, songs and instrumental pieces. Included will be selections from Hilario Duran’s latest CD ‘Motion’ and his Juno award-winning album ‘From the Heart’, as well beautiful Latin songs especially arranged by Hilario Duran for this exceptional evening.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder, a physical condition that affects over 300,000
Canadians. It causes a malfunction of the electrical signals that control the brain. It is
characterized by sudden, brief seizures, whose nature and intensity varies from person
to person. 30% of epilepsy patients do not respond to any available treatments. New
therapies are urgently needed. Many people living with epilepsy are reluctant to
disclose their condition due to fear of stigma, isolation and discrimination.
