York Paediatric Therapy Service: A STEP in the WRITE Direction

A Step In The Write Direction is a two-week program, of five half days per week, designed for children four to ten years of age to improve printing or handwriting. The camp is run by York Paediatric Therapy Services in Richmond Hill. “Our aim is to provide each child with a unique camp experience that achieves personal success and independence in handwriting through a multi-sensory approach to teaching printing or writing, co-operative games, physical activities, and arts and crafts,” says Rhona Feldt-Stein, Director. Within the camp experience, each child will also work on his or her eye- hand co-ordination, dexterity, hand strength, legibility and organizational skills to improve confidence and speed with written work. Theme days, age-appropriate activities and life skills are an integral part of the program. Groups are based on a 3 to 1 student-to-staff ratio. The staff are certified Occupational Therapists with extensive paediatric experience. The camps run throughout July and August.
