Extended hours for bus service
Send your feedback to the Toronto Transit Commission
CLIFF JENKINS Ward 25 Councillor
WITH THE INTENT to better serve residents, the Toronto Transit Commission extended the hours of service and increased the frequency of many bus and streetcar routes.
Some routes that had previously offered limited service outside of rush hour now provide service until about 1 a.m., closely matching subway hours of operation. I have received both comments and questions on the service improvements as they affect the residents of Ward 25 on the following routes: 78 St.
Andrews, 115 Silver Hills, 162 Lawrence-Donway, 124 Sunnybrook, 103 Mount Pleasant North, 25 Don Mills, 54 Lawrence East, 51 Leslie, 95 York Mills and 97 Yonge.
“I am a daily user of the 162 Lawrence-Donway bus and depend on it to attend classes at York University,” said one resident. “Now that we have evening service, I can get safely to and from my part-time job at the Don Mills Shopping Centre. I am so grateful for this bus!”
Other residents have questioned the cost and benefit for the new service, noting that buses often have few passengers later in the evening, and expressed concern about the noise late at night in residential areas. I have passed all comments, both positive and negative, to the TTC for consideration. They are gathering ridership data generated as a result of the service changes and welcome your feedback. Later this year, TTC staff plan to recommend to the commission further adjustments based on their analysis of that data and input received from the public.
You can provide comments and suggestions directly to the TTC by going online at www.ttc.ca (follow the “contact us” link on the home page) or by calling 416- 393-3030. Or, send them to me at councillor_jenkins@toronto.ca.
