More than just meats for mall fixture Nortown

For the past fifty years Michael Klein, founder of Nortown Foods, and his family have made their shop a neighbourhood fixture. Starting out as a small butcher shop on Eglinton Avenue, Nortown Foods has grown to include two additional stores, located in Thornhill and York Mills. Klein was born in a small town in the former Czechoslovakia where his father was a butcher.

He has passed on the skill from his father to his children, and all three of them have worked in the shop. Klein’s son, Brian says that customer loyalty has been strong over the years. “We literally have some customers that started shopping in the late sixties,” he says. In addition to selling the finest meats, fish and poultry, a wide assortment of prepared foods, specialty grocery items and baked goods are also offered. (303 York Mills Rd. 416-447-0310).

La Citadelle International Academy of Arts and Science recently turned 10 years old.
