Suspect charged with murder after Oriole Park shooting
The quiet Oriole Park neighbourhood recently became the scene of Toronto’s 16th homicide of 2012. According to the Toronto Police Service, it dispatched officers to the Oriole Parkway and Chaplin Crescent area in the early hours of the morning on May 9, after receiving a call about the sound of gunshots.
In what has been described as a targeted attack, 32-year-old James Massey was identified as the victim. The cause of death was “a close-range shotgun blast to the stomach,” a post-mortem examination found.
Police subsequently issued a warrant for the arrest of a 33-year-old male suspect, who was described as armed and dangerous.
Less than 24 hours later, the suspect, accompanied by a lawyer, turned himself in to 53 Division where he was charged with first-degree murder.
