It’s the go-to dim sum restaurant in downtown Toronto for its combo of affordability and quality. Don’t be put off by the Yorkville address and fancy shmancy tablecloths and damask-covered chairs, for this is a dressed up trad dim sum parlour. They do not attempt anything nouvelle, but do justice to the standards of the dumpling kingdom. Who doesn’t love a good har gow with big pieces of shrimp? Same for siu mai, which burst with sweet pork and shrimp. Their BBQ pork puffs are sweet and crisp, the rice crepes are more delicate than elsewhere, and their curried octopus is tender. It’s old hat and wonderful. Watch for weekend lineups at lunch, and a tendency not to take reservation times seriously.
