The coolest new restaurant in Toronto is Mark McEwan’s homage to Italy. Lots of restaurants have the high-temperature pizza oven from Naples and the charcuterie, but nobody has a bigger charcuterie walk-in than McEwan. And nobody else has the money to build such a gloriously beautiful restaurant. Fabbrica is Italian for factory; it’s a high-style take on industrial chic, with reclaimed wood, fabulous colours and sexy lighting. The best of Fabbrica is casual – impeccable pizzas, rustic robust pastas and panini with high-flavoured Tuscan bean salad, and wonderful cured meats. Among salads octopus with salami and arugula is a standout.
