Clean sweep for spring

Bring your gently used items to Esther Shiner Stadium

SPRING IS IN the air, and it’s time to get rid of things no longer needed. Many gently used items that we no longer use can be a treasure to others, so I encourage you to package them up for donation.

This is the time of the year when we can get rid of clutter in our homes and free up space so we can organize ourselves better. I’m sure that, like me, you would rather be outside enjoying the warmer temperatures and seeing the grass become green, trees bud and plants grow. However, the reward of having a cleaner home and giving to others also lifts the spirits.

Our Ward 10 Environment Day will be held on Thursday, May 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Esther Shiner Stadium, in the parking lot.

Items such as books, clothing, eyeglasses, fabric remnants, yarn, CDs, crayons, markers, toys, sporting goods, medical equipment and dishes can all be dropped off for donation.

If you have old ink-jet cartridges, water filters, cell phones, computers, motor oil, paint cans, batteries, unused medications and old tires (no rims, limit of five) bring them over, and we will dispose of them properly or recycle them.

You will be able to purchase kitchen containers, indoor water efficiency kits, green bins, backyard composters and rain barrels.

Once again, free compost will be available, so come early because supplies are limited.

Environment Day not only gives us the opportunity to improve our environment but also allows us to give back to the community with donations.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at 416-338-0338, or visit our website: www.toronto.ca/environment _days.

Remember: recycle, reuse and reduce!

I hope to see you on May 14th!
