Fair leather friend
Style guru Jeanne Beker tries on chic leather jackets from some of the city’s finest purveyors and picks her favourite
WINNER: Bold & beautiful
DANIER, $199
“I absolutely adore yellow, and this is a hot colour that came on strong this season. We’re going to see a whole lot more of it come the spring. I just think it adds a splash of sunshine on a gloomy day. There is some real nice insulation in this jacket, too, and some great details inside, like a little pocket for your iPhone or your money. And you’ve got a faux fur trim on the hood, which is good for people who don’t want to wear real fur.”

Walk on the wild side
TCEC FROM HONEY, $150
“I love the colour of this. This wonderful green is very hot right now, and I love the zipper details. It’s really a fun, old-style biker jacket and very lightweight, and the great pop is this animal print lining — very Dolce and Gabanna.”

Simply sophisticated
M0851, $815
“I adore this jacket. It’s got great clean, modern lines. The collar is very dramatic, and it just really oozes style. It’s got zips up the sleeves as well, so you can turn up the cuffs for an extra bit of pizzazz. You can wear it, of course, with jeans, but also a sleek pair of slacks or a little pencil skirt, and you’ll have a very sophisticated, elegant look.”

Back in black
RUDSAK, $595
“This is a great black leather jacket with beautiful stitching — it has such great detailing in the front. It’s got some insulation, too, so it’s more than just a plain leather jacket. It’s rich-looking with its high collar — really a nice, strong black jacket with great detailing.”

Biker chic
ROOTS, $598
This is a kind of retro motorcycle style with the strip piece on the bottom. It’s almost reminiscent of the new peplum waist we’re seeing. A beautiful, rich Bordeaux colour, which has come on so strong for this season. It’s got these nice clean snaps for an edge of modernity.”

Cool combo
LINE KNITWEAR FROM ANDREWS, $550
“A really hot trend this season is to combine leather with applications of knits. It’s done absolutely beautifully here in a kind of waterfall style in the front. I really love this. It’s a great piece that will be very versatile, and it has a great unusual look to it, like you’re wearing a little leather bolero with a sweater underneath.”
