Discount Pachter

LOOKING FOR A special something to spruce up the old homestead for Thanksgiving or the Christmas holidays? How about an original $18,000 Charles Pachter banner for your wall? Or maybe a $2,800 work by acclaimed Inuit artist Kenojuak Ashevak. Thanks to the Art Gallery of Ontario’s art rental program, mere mortals can access the gallery’s sizable rental collection for use at home, at the office or at a special event. Even acclaimed photographer Edward Burtynsky has had work for rent.

“We have a holiday show every year,” says Jennifer Bhogal, coordinator of the program. “The works are 24 inches and smaller in size, just for homeowners. We get a lot more people through here then.”

According to Bhogal, art can be rented for as little as $20 per month with a minimum three-month rental and a limit of six months.

“We have 200 to 300 works in the space,” says Bhogal. Other prominent artists currently on display in addition to Pachter and Ashevak include Kathy Daley, Karen Curry and photographer Rick Vincil.

There is a free consultation, and delivery and installation can also be arranged.
