New shop brings Portuguese flavour to Bayview Avenue

Plus, local florist blooms, sweet Danish treats, and more

Lydia Shammas and Lisa Jibran’s Royal Orchid Florist has called Thornhill home for nearly 20 years now. The sisters recently moved from Green Lane into a larger shop that has the room to showcase wedding decors, which is their specialty, says Shammas. Also available are arrangements, bouquets and fresh flowers for all occasions (8190 Bayview Ave., 905-731-6030).

Juicy BBQ Chicken recently opened, bringing fresh, halal meats to the Richmond Hill area. Chickens are precooked and then grilled in front of customers, says owner Shahin Aminaee. With a focus on takeout and delivery, the meat is done in a Portuguese-style sauce and comes in a variety of cuts and combos (8763 Bayview Ave., 905-597-0777)

The Vegan Danish Bakery will have its grand opening this month. Co-owner Lili Khan says it can be tough to maintain the vegan lifestyle without ready-made treats to indulge one’s sweet tooth. And egg- and milk-free goodies are just as tasty, she says. Danishes are a specialty, but there are cakes, cupcakes, muffins and more (7718 Yonge St., 905-882-1331)

Dove spa is coming to Hillcrest Mall this month, marking its fourth Canadian location. A variety of  aesthetic services, including manicures, pedicures, laser hair removal and waxing, will be provided. At Dove’s skin care is a focus using unique diagnostic tools to personalize facials. Eurostyle Optical is celebrating more than 10 years of selling eyewear in the Thornhill area. The shop offers one-hour service and carries a range of designer frames (6464 Yonge St., 416-512-8423).
