Red Rooster has established a new location in Richmond Hill, to better meet demand in the area, says owner Dina Gomez. The Portuguese restaurant’s top seller is their grilled chicken. Everything is made in house, from appetizers to sides to desserts, she says. Larger groups can take advantage of catering services (975 Major Mackenzie Dr., Unit 1, 905-417-0075).

Jane Lee has relocated her salon. But after 10 years of doing dos in Thornhill, she isn’t going too far. Lee says she decided to move Joy Hair Salon further north on Yonge Street because she found a nice space there. She offers cuts, colour and more. What Lee describes as the Japanese straight perm is a salon specialty, she says (8137 Yonge St., 905-889-6965).

Mr. Ravivo Restaurant recently opened up in Thornhill, bringing Middle Eastern fare to Green Lane. Owner Zorak Ravivo, who used to operate eateries on Centre Street, says his new restaurant will be serving up shish kebabs, souvlaki, (chicken, lamb or beef) steak and more. Kids’ combos and takeout options are also available (87 Green Ln., 905-707-6600).

Mohsen Madani says he felt that Thornhill was lacking a large Persian grocery store. He decided to change that recently by opening up  Parsian Fine Foods, a supermarket that includes a bakery, salad and juice bars and more. Madani says he hopes his store will appeal to everyone, much like the kebabs he sells, a popular Persian delight, do (8129 Yonge St., 905-709-1400).

Tony Marchese Men’s Shop is celebrating 20 years of selling everything from sportswear to suits in Richmond Hill. Labels include Diesel, Stones and J Fedders (9555 Yonge St., 905-508-1424).
