Cheap Eat of the Week: Bonjour Brioche’s blueberry custard royale

In an effort to enjoy the last few weeks of beautiful biking weather (when it’s just warm enough to ride, but not so cold that your hands need mittens), we made a brunch stop out on Queen East. Riding down the extravagant Sherbourne bike lanes (can we take a second to just say how sad it is that there are so few of these in the city?), our destination, like many brunching east-enders’, was Bonjour Brioche.
At a place with a name like that, you’re not likely to leave the premises without trying the famous brioche, or the croissants, breads or other pastries. Which one to choose? Well, there’s a regular brioche and then there’s the fluffy, buttery brioche royale ($1.95), with your choice of lemon raspberry or, as pictured above, blueberry custard, finished with a dusting of irresistible powdered sugar.
Bonjour Brioche, 812 Queen St. E., 416-406-1250
