There’s a yawning gulf in dim sum in Toronto. We have hordes of cheap ’n’ cheerful dumplings downtown. No extra charge for grease, and so what if the dumplings are a bit long in the tooth (or perhaps previously frozen) and sometimes dryish. Then there’s Lai Wah Heen, with fabulous expensive dim sum in formal surroundings. Not my dream Sunday brunch. Into this void comes Grand, whose dim sum is impeccable, creative and nicely priced. That it’s in an airport hotel is unfortunate, but it merits the journey. Take a crowd and order most of the menu, because every dumpling they do is delectable.
