#98 Luckee

From super-chef Susur Lee we expect dazzling chinoiserie. Luckee delivers fairly snazzy Chinese food in a gorgeous tall modern room but it’s not fab enough to tear us away from trad Chinese. All day dim sum (in carts on weekends) are the standards done somewhat better. We like the ginger in the har gow and the fresh lobster dumpling. Hot and sour soup is superb, with perfectly cooked scallops and great spicing. Szechuan kung pao shrimp are fat and hot, lobster is perfectly cooked and a hint of orange zings its black bean sauce. But Luckee duck isn’t, thanks to not being crisp, and pork meat balls are blah. Would that the maestro’s famous control were more in evidence.
