Mr. Flamingo

A new hipster haven on Dundas West, Mr. F. is a sweetly decorated room, flattering retro amber lighting and nicely spaced tables, with unusually pleasant music levels for a spot so cool. Same deal with the service, which is kindly. The menu is ambitious and often meets it goals, thanks to chef Fan Zhang who learned his chops from Nick Liu at Niagara Street Caf. Best items are the papardelle with wild mushrooms — alfredo sauce with deep mushroom flavour draped over fat al dente house-made noodles, and brown butter gnocchi with octopus gremolata. The gnocchi are big fat and soft, the octopus similarly sensuous, and gremolata lends lemon zing to the mellowness. Welcome to hipster heaven, with taste buds.
