The Spend A Little list represents Joanne’s favourite 50 Toronto restaurants at which two people can eat for under $65 excluding taxes, tip and drinks.

#49 Lamesa

Toronto finally has an ambitious Filipino restaurant. About time we’re eating lumpia and pancit and leche flan. Chef Daniel Cancino builds strong flavours. Lumpia is house-corned beef in crunchy spring rolls with sweet/tart banana ketchup. Pancit Canton is an edible aspect of the Philippines’ Chinese history: Eggy noodles stir-fried with snow peas, pickled beech mushrooms, pea shoot and chiles. Tuna kinilaw is Filipino ceviche strongly spiked with kalamansi lime, atop coconut-inflected guacamole. We love the chicken adobo, vinegary and glazed dark. Goes great with wondrously garlicky fried rice. All this in a gracious room, with helpful attentive service.
