#48 North 44

North 44

If you want an old school snazzy meal north of Eglinton, this is it. North 44 is resting on its laurels. It’s hard to find a wow at dinner here, but it’s all highly competent and built on very fine ingredients thanks to the buying power (if not the close attention) of Mark McEwan’s growing food empire. Does it matter that the impeccable scallops are a titch overcooked? Or that the tender duck could be a tad crisper and its ultra-creamy risotto needs a bit more punch? The room remains deluxe, all glass and taupe, sparkling glassware and expensive napery. One always feels like a bit of princess here. Downton Abbey, here we come.
